Jackie:
I was never able to get an upload to work.  I had to upload the picture to another web site, and specify the url of the picture on the web site.  http://www.flickr.com/ seems to be a popular one.  I think it is the one Greer uses.  It can use your yahoo id if you have.
If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask:
Amy

Hi Jackie,

I'm having the same problem of trying to upload a photo for the profile icon. Is there any way to send it like I send a photo with an email?

I don't have any other website of yahoo page, any suggestions?

Dona

Dona,

I'm new to this here posting photos stuff myself. You have have a URL to send from, such as Flickr. There are others, I'll stick to what I know. With the help of Greer, I managed to get my pretty face in public. If I can do it, anyone can! E-mail me for the directions at,

Terrihoney@msn.com

  Hugs, Terri

Well I finally got it but not without help from Jackie, who's directions I lost, and a super big THANK YOU to Greer for a lot of help.

Once you know how to do something it's easy but isn't that true with everything in life?

Hugs and Kisses to all that helped.

Dona

Hi Laura,

The difficulty is that specific directions depend on what application you use to edit your photo (to 64x64 pixels) and what online service you use to host the finished photo.

In general terms, you open the photo for editing and change the dimensions to 64x64 pixels. Looking at the other icons shown here, you can see that closeups work much better. When you have done that, save the resized photo. Next, upload the resized photo to the service you have chosen to host the photo (like Flikr).

Next comes the tricky part. Some of the services do not allow you to link directly to the photo. Flikr allows this, but you have to dig a bit to find the URL of the photo. Whatever service you use, you need to come up with a URL that will display ONLY the photo, NOT a display page. So here is the test, when you come up with the URL, copy and paste it directly into the address line on your web browser. If the resulting page shows ONLY the photo, you are in business. If it shows an album page, or captions, or anything else, you haven't got the right URL. Use help or technical support to get to that URL.

When you have a working URL, logon to the forum and go into settings and edit profile. In the Select Avatar section, type or paste the full URL into the entry box (don't forget the "http:// . . ."). Then click on the Preview button. Your photo should be displayed. Do NOT click on "Upload Avatar". At the bottom of the page, click on Update Profile. That's it.

I hope that helps.

Hugs,
Greer

P.S.

Sorry, "URL" is also know as the "Uniform Resource Locator". It is the address for a page/site that you see in the address bar at the top of the browser.
